An international film festival capturing the lives of those with different disabilities came to Queens Monday.

More than 150 people visited the Central Queens Y for the kickoff of the 9th annual ReelAbilities International Film Festival Monday. The festival features films and documentaries about people with disabilities and their families. Filmmakers and other speakers also discuss the films with audience members.

Organizers say the movies provide a great opportunity to learn about different disabilities.

“As we try to improve the life quality for people with disabilities and their families, it is important for the wider community to become more accepting and aware,” said Jeri Mendelsohn, Executive Vice President & CEO of the Central Queens Y.

The festival continues through Wednesday around the city. For times and locations, visit newyork.reelabilities.org.
