A Queens community on the water, Howard Beach, did its part to go green on Sunday.

The Lower East Side Ecology Center held their first e-waste recycling event in the neighborhood by partnering up with Assembly Member Stacey Pheffer Amato.

Residents were able to drop off all kinds of electronics at the Rockwood Park Jewish Center.

Everything from old TVs, cell phones, and keyboards were then loaded onto a truck to be disposed of properly.

The event is just part of an effort to keep such items out of landfills.

Organizers said that for participants the event was also an easy way for them to get rid of old junk and avoid a heavy fine from the sanitation department.

DSNY prohibits disposing such items out on the curb.

"You put it out on the street, you are gonna get a ticket. You can't life these things, and if could life it, the places you can drop it off are extremely limited, so an event like this needs to be advertised, there needs to be more events like this," said Tim Jernigan, a Far Rockaway resident.

The Lower East Side Ecology Center will be hosting 9 upcoming e-waste recycling events in the borough this spring.
