A new survey will give New Yorkers the chance to contribute ideas for cultural events throughout the city.

The name of the program is called Create NYC.

It's a cultural plan that will use surveys filled out by residents to enrich the city's cultural life.

A handful of people at Queens Library were the first to fill out the surveys.

Organizers of the program says that the survey is the best way of addressing the cultural needs of residents.

"We are public servants. the money that we spend is tax payer money. So we have an obligation and a desire to find out what New Yorkers really want," said Tom Finkelpearl, NYC Commissioner of Cultural Affairs.

"There are a lot of new immigrant populations that are here and so it's important for them to give their feedback. So people want to know where to go. Where they can take their families to for free," said Dennis Walcott, President and CEO, Queens Library.

The final plan will be presented to the city council for approval in July.
