Eighteen student performers took the stage Friday afternoon for a Black History Month talent show at Queens High School for Information, Research and Technology.

A snow day in February forced the school to move the performance to March.

Students at Friday's assembly showed original films about Harriet Tubman.

They also performed step and dance routines — and songs inspired by Afro-Latino culture.

"I'm hoping the kids get out of this strength, hope, perseverance and just bigger self-esteem. That are things that even folks say you can't do it, you can and you have hidden talents," said Parris Morris, the coordinator of the Black History Month Program.

The school is planning another talent show this spring.
