A Queens native is taking the fashion industry by storm. NY1's Lyndsay Christian spent time with Designer LaQuan Smith as he prepared his collection for New York Fashion Week.

LaQuan Smith knew at an early age he'd make a mark on the fashion industry.

"My grandmother, she taught me how to sew, bought me my first sewing machine, and that's how everything started," said Smith.

At 19 years old, The St. Albans, Queens native, created a luxury fashion line for women, inspired by his neighborhood.

"Growing up in the hip-hop/pop culture lifestyle," said Smith.

Staying true to his roots, the now 28-year old designer creates, manufactures and houses his collection in Long Island City.

It's where he's designed show-stopping fashions that have caught the eyes of mega-watt stars.

"Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Rihanna. ..they've all worn LaQuan Smith.," said the designer.

We caught up with Smith weeks before he unveiled his fall 2017 line for New York Fashion Week.

"I'm really into this weird fusion of dominatrix vibe, very futuristic, but I'm taking influences from the Renaissance and Victorian aesthetic," said Smith.

"I'm excited to debut the collection here at Samsung, in such a cool, technology, futuristic type of way," said Smith.

Not only did LaQuan give guests an up-close look at his collection, he wanted them to experience the 360-LaQuan Smith lifestyle.

Influencers and fashionistas were intrigued- as they also watched a fashion film showcasing the collection through

3D goggles.

"I am in love with it," said rapper Remy Ma.

And, for the first time, it included LaQuan Smith footwear which caught the eye of Grammy-nominated Rapper and "Love & Hip-Hop New York" Cast member, Remy Ma.

"A bubble jacket, but they're boots, all the different fabrics the patent leather. When I asked him the theme, he said it was "Scream" Michael & Janet Jackson's music video," said the rapper.

Celebrity Stylist Ty Hunter, best known for dressing Beyoncé and Destiny's Child, applauded Smith's designs.

"Adding the latex it's really, really sexy and daring," said Hunter.

So, now that he's given birth to yet another well received collection, what's next for the designer?

"I want LaQuan Smith to be a global international brand, I want all women to own LaQuan Smith in her closet," said the designer.

A goal he says would make his grandmother proud.
