A busy travel weekend is ahead. As NY1's Shannan Ferry reports  some adjustment are being made to ease traffic at LaGaurdia airport for the rush.

If you're heading to LaGuardia Airport this holiday weekend, allow plenty of time to get there.

That's the message officials have for travelers heading in or out of town for President's Day.

"I know the traffic has been really bad at LaGuardia lately, so I'm here two hours in advance," said passenger Jane Pook.

Governor Cuomo is promising to sort out traffic issues around LaGuardia as it undergoes a major overhaul.

Construction combined with a high number of travelers and last week's snowstorm caused major backups last weekend.

It forced some people to walk along the parkway to get in.

"LaGuardia is a very small space and it's constrained, you have the water on one side you have the communities on the other, so there is a lot of activity on that site," said Cuomo.

Now, with a peak travel weekend ahead, officials said they're making adjustments to alleviate congestion.

Along with free Q70 shuttle bus service through Tuesday, there will also be discounted long-term parking available in lot P10.

Many travelers we spoke with said they welcome any improvements.

"Because last time I did come here I missed my flight, you know, bumper to bumper, I couldn't get to my flight ton time," said passenger Lindsey Lee.

Officials also re-located a taxi stand to the west end of Terminal B to allow for easier access.

"To make something better, we you know, we have to be patient, you know," said cab driver Ablasse Compaore.

The Port Authority is asking travelers to consider using ride sharing services or mass transit this weekend.

They're also encouraging passengers to check their flight ahead of time to make sure it's on schedule.

The construction overhaul is expected to take about four years.
