Prosecutors call it the unthinkable. An Arverne mother has admitted to killing her own child in 2014.
Ashley Diaz, 31, has pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and second-degree manslaughter for the death of her two year old daughter. It happened in the family's home on Beach 56th Place.
Kevasia Edwards died from abusive head trauma and multiple, violent impacts on her body. According to the D.A., Diaz said that Kevasia had a seizure, fell to the ground and became unresponsive, but she sat by her daughter and didn't call for help for more than an hour. Kevasia was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Doctors say the extent of the child's injuries were not consistent with a seizure.
Diaz will be sentenced next month and she is expected to get 17 years in prison.
