A Queens city councilman is trying to make it easier to apply for the city identification card.

Starting Wednesday January 18 through Friday January 27, you can apply for the IDNYC card at Councilman Daniel Dromm's office in Jackson Heights. The card is free, and available to city residents who are at least 14 years old. Besides being a valid ID card in the city, it also comes with discounts to several attractions and museums in the city. The councilman says for immigrants in the borough, getting this card can be one way to push back against possible anti-immigrant policies in the Trump administration.

"What we want to make sure is that we have enough people in that database no body would ever be able to tell who is an immigrant who is not an immigrant and what their immigration status is all about," says Councilman Dromm.

You do need to schedule an appointment either by calling 311 or the councilman's office at (718) 803-6373.
