Queens College celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The college held its third annual Martin Luther King Day commemoration Sunday.

King spoke at the college back in 1965 as part of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Lecture Series.

NY1's own Cheryl Wills was the keynote speaker.

"This campus has been a center of activism for many, many decades. It is an honor to represent NY1 to be here to remember Dr. King," said Wills.

"Part of the Queens College DNA is civil rights and human rights, so we think that we can combine both by creating an event that honors his legacy," said Felix Matos Rodriguez, the president of Queens College.

The Rev. Floyd Flake from the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in Jamaica was the official honoree.
