A Queens church spreads cheer to families in need this holiday season.

The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral opened its doors Tuesday for its 3rd Annual "Christmas on Merrick" celebration.

Merrick Boulevard was the one-stop-shop destination for holiday meals and gifts.

The church served more than 800 families, which wouldn't have been possible without help from local organizations that donated toys.

"Some parents can't really afford to go to Toys R Us and just splurge and buy, so that is where we come in handy," volunteer Asia Salley said.

"In the spirit of love, in the spirit of Christmas, so it is not so much about the hustle and bustle, not so much about the shopping or the grind or being in the malls, it is really just about giving from the heart and that is what Christmas is all about," organizer Rodeena Stephens said.
