They weren't in Manhattan, but some local students celebrated a “Central Park Christmas” on Thursday.

St. John's University students were treated to a horse drawn carriage ride on the campus "Great Lawn" Thursday afternoon. It's all a part of the school's 26th annual Winter Carnival.

After riding around in carriages students also got to fill cookies with cannoli cream and have warm drinks.

“Kids come from all around the world, all around the country,” said Catherine Sheen, the carnival’s chairperson. “This is kind of a chance, even if they don't get to go home for Christmas or whatever holiday they celebrate, that they can come all together here.”

“It's just a different activity that you don't usually see around campus,” added senior Biology major Anarita Lynch. “It's got that Central Park feel to it a little bit.”

The carnival will wrap up next Friday with student performances and a tree-lighting.
