Elmhurst Hospital will soon have a new shuttle service that can be used to get patients the care they need.

The shuttles will transport sick patients from the hospital to specialized treatment centers, in places they might not otherwise be able to get to.

The vans will also transport doctors and nurses to other hospital locations so they can help more patients.

The new service will be available following the allocation of $100,000 by Queens Senator Toby Ann Stavisky.

"They have to rely on the vans that they have that were not enough. When the $100,000 came available we asked Elmhurst, ‘What should we put under provisions? What is it going to be used for?’ They said we need transportation services," Stavisky said on Monday.

Senator Stavisky said the vans will be particularly helpful in helping some of her constituents, who don't otherwise have the means to get to specialized doctors.
