Some special Queens seniors put on their dancing shoes at a local community center.
Dozens sang and danced to traditional Hebrew and Yiddish tunes at the Martin Lande House Thursday. Most in attendance were survivors of the Holocaust and residents at SelfHelp Community Service's Flushing and Bayside locations.
It was all a part of SelfHelp's Coffee House program, which is meant to give seniors an excuse to get out of the house and socialize with others.
“For a lot of our clients, they have a calendar full of doctor's appointments. And to have an event where there's dancing and music and food, it really gives them something to look forward to,” said Aubrey Jacobs, who serves as Director of the Queens Holocaust Survivor Program.
“It's a beautiful idea because I see some people who I know for many years. I’m glad to see them,” added client Galina Solovushkova.
SelfHelp's next coffeehouse will be on November 15th in Forest Hills.
