A local high school sports coach will now forever be remembered at Queens street corner.

Council Member Paul Vallone, as well as family and former players of Coach Stephen Piorkowskim, gathered on Friday to honor the late Bayside High School coach with a street co-naming.

Piorkowski is credited for turning the Lady Commodores into softball and basketball powerhouses.

"To honor him on a block, in a school, in a neighborhood that meant to much to him, particularly overlooking the softball field. It's, um, it's really a really wonderful feeling," said Susan Hayes, Piorkowski's wife.

He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in January 2012 and died last year.

"It's good for the city to remember fathers and husbands that dedicate their lives for their families, their schools, their sport programs give their passion to everything," said City Council Member Paul Vallone of the honor.

'Coach P', as he was called, led Bayside's teams for nearly 25 years.
