A parking lot that was becoming an eyesore for residents in Glendale is finally clean.

Back in August, NY1 told you about residents complaining about the illegal dumping at the Sports Authority off Woodhaven Boulevard. When the store closed its doors, many people began illegally dumping trash in the parking lot. It piled up for months.

The United Sanative and Enviromental Alliance partnered up with Boro Wide Recycling to clean it up. They cleaned up the last bit of trash Thursday.

Organizers say the cleanup is important for the quality of life and property values in the neighborhood.

“It's pride in where you live,” said Rafe Landano, President and Founder of United Sanative and Environmental Alliance. “It's about keeping things safe. It's about keeping things clean. If there's illegal dumping, what's stopping graffiti? What's stopping crime? What's stopping people from hanging out and loitering? So it's pride in the community.”

He says the groups plan on monitoring the parking lot to make sure it stays clean.
