A Queens Library branch in Northern Queens gets a financial boost for some renovations.

Queens Assemblyman Ed Braunstein presented the Whitestone Library with a $500, 000 dollar grant. The money will be used to replace the roof at the library.

"We want a safe, secure roof and that's what this money will allow us to do," said Queens Library CEO and President Dennis Walcott.

"It's smarter to stay on top of these things and make the repairs as they come than wait until it's a catastrophe where they might have to potentially possibly close it," said Assemblyman Braunstein.

Library patrons say the library is an important place for Whitestone because it provides  young students and senior citizens a quiet place where they can study, learn, and hang out.
