The Jamaica Long Island Rail Road station will see major improvements thanks to new funding from the state.

Governor Cuomo announced Wednesday that the LIRR has awarded a nearly $65 million contract to create a new platform and tracks at the station. It's part of new capital investments that will also see improvements to the Hicksville station in Nassau County.

The governor's office says the new platform and tracks at Jamaica station will allow the LIRR to more easily re-route trains, take tracks out of service and support supplemental train service to and from Atlantic Terminal and Barclays Center.

The new platform will also feature glass-enclosed, heated waiting areas, as well as Wi-Fi and USB charging stations.

New York-based artist James Little will create art glass installations in several areas of the station.

Work is scheduled to be complete in 2019.
