The city unveiled a new ferry landing in Long Island City Monday that will be part of city-wide ferry service next year.

The City's Economic Development Corporation and elected officials unveiled the landing's location off of Center Boulevard in Gantry Plaza State Park. Leaders say the LIC North ferry landing should have the highest ridership outside of Manhattan, estimated to carry about 4,000 passengers each day.

“To be able to provide New Yorkers - for the cost of a subway ride - reliable, affordable, convenient, modern transit options is one thing that we're really excited about,” NYCEDC President Maria Torres-Springer said.

“These are some of the fastest-growing neighborhoods in all of New York and there's just not enough capacity in the existing transit system,” added State Senator Michael Gianaris. “So, to be able to hop a ferry and within a few minutes be in Midtown Manhattan is going to be a great help.”

Officials say the existing ferry landing in Hunters Point South will be integrated into the citywide system next year, as well.
