It's a chance for some college students in Flushing to have some fun and games before they have to hit the books.

Queens College held it's annual Welcome Day Celebration Wednesday for new and returning students .

Students got a taste of how the college plans to carry out " The Year of Korea." Every year the college selects a country to teach about through cultural events and lectures.

It's all part of the college's plan to get students more involved in campus life.

"I want to make sure we get them as soon as they come to school, so that way they know what's avaliable for them,"said Queens College Student Government President Japnet Singh.

"I invited them to make sure they spend time not just doing things that are familiar. Not just spending time with people they know and feel comfortable with, but to reach out," said Queens College President Felix Matos Rodriguez.

Queens College has about 2,440 new students this year.
