The Second Annual Queens Lit Fest is a few days away and some of the event's featured performers gave locals a taste of what to expect during a special performance. Performers took part in a literary crawl fest on Saturday as a way to give attendees a preview of next week's event.
The free festival, which will take place at the Long Island City landing, will be a weekend celebration of the literary arts community in the borough. It will feature poets, storytellers, spoken word and hip hop artists. There will also be live music, and audience members can take part in the show during its open mic session.
"They can expect some great writing and like the borough, very diverse arts. Everybody thinks Harlem and Brooklyn have a monopoly over arts and culture, but I think there's a lot to be tapped into in Queens and again this is why I started it," said Michael Philip Geffner, the director and founder of Queens Lit Fest.
The 2 day festival begins on July 16.
