A Muslim man was attacked last month and is now speaking out about what happened to him for the first time.  Our Shannan Ferry filed this NY1 exclusive report.

His wounds may be healing, but Mohamed Rasheed Khan is still in shock.

The Hollis resident and devout Muslim spent weeks in the hospital after being brutally beaten on June 1st.

He was leaving his mosque in Queens Village wearing traditional Islamic attire.

"I wasn't breathing, I was knocked out then, if somebody didn't pick me up I might've died there," Khan said.

Khan said he doesn't remember much, but tells us a friend found him on the ground after the attack and called for help.

The NYPD arrested a 14-year-old male in connection with the case last month. He's charged with assault as a hate crime.

Authorities said he was joined by two other teens, and Khan is afraid those suspects who are still out there could strike again.

"Everyday I go to the mosque, I come back at night, I never got attacked, just like that day they attack me, so maybe they would attack another Muslim too," he said.

Khan and members of his family said now they want justice, and they hope sharing their story shows others just what they've been going through since the attack.

"I don't care about minors, right, once you're young enough to commit a crime you should suffer the consequence of the wrong doing," said Komal Ramkarran, who is Khan's Brother-in-Law.

Meantime, Khan said he hasn't been able to live a normal life or return to his job at an auto body shop.

Now, he walks with a cane and spends most of his time at home or at doctors’ appointments.

Moving forward, he hopes others understand what his Islamic faith is really all about.

"Muslims in general is good people, very good people, peaceful people, they don't attack anybody they don't trouble anybody, I don't trouble anybody here," said Khan.

Police said the Hate Crimes Task Force is actively investigating the case.
