Local Cub Scouts used robots and Legos embrace their inner scientists on Wednesday.

Twenty-five cub scouts from all over the borough learned about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) at the third annual Queens Cub Scout Day Camp at St. John's University. Older boy scouts taught them some basic robotics and how to make tiny windmills out of Legos.

The theme of this year's camp was STEM, while previous years have centered on aviation and theater.

Organizers hope that the scout camp will inspire the kids to learn more about engineering.

“Scouts is about preparing our young boys to be future leaders,” said organizer Fred Pagan. “And the outdoor skills is one portion but also developing their minds with the science and technology is important as well.”

“I never really knew how to use Lego mechanics and gears and that sort of Lego things because I usually just did the Lego sets,” said David Pagan, a Cub Scout.
