It may be expensive to live in New York City, but some Long Island City residents didnt have to break the bank to have their kids entertained Tuesday.

Hunters Point Parks Conservancy and the Gantry Parent Association have a new series of free kids programs taking place at Hunters Point South Park.

The seven-week program will run through August 24 and features a wide range of free activities that will both engage and entertain children.

Some events and classes being offered include exotic animal shows and dance lessons, as well as arts and crafts activities.

"It gives the families a chance to put their pocket books away, not have to pay for something and to come out as a community," said Jennifer Theien, the president of the Gantry Parent Association.
