Local law enforcement and safety officials made it their mission on Monday to show kids how to stay a step ahead of danger.

Both took part in a Community Safety Day organized for residents living in the NYPD's 104th precinct.

Officers on hands showed kids some ways they could respond to domestic violence or the presence of drugs.

Members of the FDNY were also on hand to share information with attendees on how stay cool and safe during the summer months.

A favorite among those in attendance was the NYPD rock wall on site.

"Kids, there's a lot of questions that they won't necessarily ask you know unless they're in an atmosphere like this you know where their guards down a little bit. They're having fun," said Len Santoro, the president of the 104th Precinct's Community Council.

"It's a very nice relaxed environment. We can talk to each other," said NYPD Capt. Mark Wachter.

"It's important that they can come out, turn to an adult in case you know they need help," said Glendale resident Lisa Pizzitola.

The precinct also plans to hold their National Night Out Against Crime event next month.
