After years of playing on outdated jungle gyms and swing sets, Woodhaven kids are getting an upgrade.

Officials cut the ribbon on a new and improved Mary Whalen Park on Friday.

They said the playground was previously old and rusty and that play structures were falling apart.

The office of Queens City Councilor Elizabeth Crowley donated $1.3 million, and Mayor Bill De Blasio's office donated another $339,000 towards the renovations.

Community leaders said the upgrades were a long time coming.

"They have this very large Forest Park, which has a lot of trees and has this one playground," Crowley said. "And this playground was really falling apart."

"It's definitely a 360-degree turn," said Lisa Gomes, a Community Board 9 member.

The project took about 10 months to complete.
