Long-time State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky has a Democratic primary challenger in her bid for re-election.

Businessman S.J. Jung announced his plans to challenge Stavisky on Tuesday.

Jung is a small business owner and the former president of the MinKwon Center for Community Action.

Stavisky has held the 16th district senate seat for 17 years. The district stretches from Woodside east to Bayside.

Jung says he's not a career politician and is ready to change things up in Albany.

“We all agree that we need to bring greater transparency and accountability and integrity to Albany, but let me tell you it will not happen until we elect new leaders who have courage and conviction to tackle all these age-old problems,” said Jung.

A spokesperson for Stavisky says the senator is running on her record of fighting for low and middle class families and will continue to push for ethics reform.

The primary will be held on September 13th.
