Komal Ramkarran was shocked earlier this month when he learned three suspects attacked his brother-in-law Mohamed Rasheed Khan.

On Monday, the NYPD announced they arrested a 14-year-old in connection to the case.

"It's just a shame, these kids should be in school, or be doing something more constructive rather than hurting people," said Ramkarran.

Authorities have not released the teens name. Investigators say he and two other teens attacked the 59-year-old as the victim left a Muslim mosque in Queens Village on June 1st.

"Why Muslim? Only Muslim being targeted. Anybody can be terrorist," he said.

The teen is charged with assault as a hate crime. Ramkarran said Khan was wearing traditional Islamic attire just prior to the attack.

"New York was never like this, I've been living here for 20 something years, we need to live together and work together with the police," said Ramkarran.

Ramkarran said his family is thankful for the support they've received during this difficult time.  He said they plan to use this platform to promote peace and denounce discrimination.

"It should stop completely because this is America this is freedom for everybody, everybody come here for a better life," he said.

Ramkarran said Khan is still recovering in the hospital from multiple broken bones in his face and internal injuries.

He is asking anyone with information about the the two other attackers to come forward so justice can be served.
