The city has scrapped its controversial plan to co-locate a Queens Village middle school.

Parents protested the proposal to move a charter high school into I.S. 109 for months, saying high school students should not mingle with junior high kids and that the facility would be overcrowded.

The Panel for Educational Policy was scheduled to vote on the issue this month after postponing the vote several times, but a spokesperson with the Department of Education says after further review the DOE has decided to withdraw its proposal at this time.

"We continue to work with the Jean Nuzzi school community and other key partners on how to best use the available space to meet the diverse needs of District 29 students and families, and also work closely with New Visions to ensure a smooth transition into a long term site," the spokesperson said.
