It was a race to the finish line at the inaugural Queens 5k.

The New York Road Runners held their first ever 5k race in Queens, Saturday.

The organization usually holds an annual 10k in Queens, as part of their Five Borough Series, but decided to add a new course this year.

Organizer's say 1,000 runners took part in the race for the chance to be the first male and female to win the borough's first 5k.

"The first 800 meters of the race I was like 'Oh I feel comfortable', and after the first mile I still felt good. Second mile felt good. It's just a good day came together you know." said Male First Place Winner, Jeff Poindexter.

"I just feel it's good to be out here. I signed up for the 5k because the last time that I — the two times I was in Queens I came in third female, so I saw the option and was like - 'Yes! I can handle that.'" said Female First Place Winner, Leigh Gerson.

Aside from Queens, the organization only holds a 5k on Staten Island and in the Bronx.
