The Queens Botanical Garden celebrated two green holidays in one this weekend.

The garden hosted its sixth annual Arbor Fest Sunday.

Visitors were invited to celebrate international earth week and arbor day, which is this upcoming Friday.

Participants took the day to learn about composting and planting. There was also a petting zoo. In honor of Arbor Day the garden also offered a tree walk for the first time.

Organizers hope events like Arbor Fest will inspire people to protect the planet.

"Trees need some care just like people do. They need to be pruned. They need to be watered. They need to be fed and they need to be loved and appreciated," said Queens Botanical Garden Executive Director Susan Lacerte.

"It's nice especially if you're surrounded by cement and brick buildings to come out and plant a tree, get your hands dirty, hear some music, listen to nature, smell some things," participant J Vanburen added.
