Female volleyball, soccer, and fencing athletes from Queens College stopped by Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on Sunday to teach girls some techniques that they use while playing sports.

The Parks Department organized the free event to encourage girls to be active through sports.

"It's important for girls to get involved in sports for a lot of reasons," said Christopher Davis, the Chief of Recreation for Queens NYC Parks. "One, it's fun. Two, they get a lot of exercise when they participate in sports. It's also a great tool for teaching them leadership."

Mr. Met made a special guest appearance to coach the girls taking part.
