Queens Borough President Melinda Katz endorsed Tom Suozzi for Congress on Sunday.

During an event in Bayside, Katz, along with other community leaders, endorsed the Democrat and former Nassau County Executive who is running for the 3rd Congressional District Seat.

The office is now occupied by Rep. Steve Israel.

Katz says Suozzi has spent time listening to the issues that voters have and that is why he has her support.

"I do believe that you need someone with experience and a strong fighter to go down to Washington to bring the dollars back that matter, especially for transportation in the area, and also fight the fight when it comes to airport noise," Katz said.

"Only one of us has a proven record of being a responsible reformer who gets things done, who's willing to stand up to powerful interests and make change on behalf of the people they represent, and that's what I've done throughout my career," Suozzi said.

Suozzi will go up against three other candidates for the seat including Suffolk County legislator Steve Stern, Nassau Interim Finance Authority Chairman Jon Kaiman, and Councilwoman Anna Kaplan.
