Some Springfield Gardens students will be able to take part in the democratic process just in time for the presidential primaries.

That's because George Washington Carver High School held its second annual Student Voter Registration Day on Friday.

The event was aimed at helping eligible students register to vote and learn about civic participation.

"Young people have not been participating historically in elections, and this is one way to motivate them to do that," said City Council member Donovan Richards of Queens.

The high school was one of 60 across New York City that took part in day-long effort.

"It is good for everyone to vote because it's a way to voice your opinion in the community," said George Washington Carver High School student Brandon Lambert.

New York's presidential primary will take place on April 19.
