An overcrowded school in Middle Village will soon get the additional space it needs to house students.

City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley and residents got together on Monday to celebrate a decision by the NYC School Construction Authority to move ahead with an expansion at P.S.- I.S. 128.

The changes will cost the city around 30 million dollars but will help the school accommodate an additional 300 students.

The school is currently at 123% capacity and uses an old factory building, across the street, as an annex for around 200 students.

An addition to the building was also constructed back in 2009 but has still failed to accommodate the entire student body.

"The youngest, our most vulnerable population, the first and second graders are having to attend class in a small old factory building that doesn't have a gym. It doesn't have adequate ventilation and certainly no place we want to send our youngest kids to school in," said Queens City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley.

The new construction will take up a fraction of what is now the school's playground.
