A local nonprofit shines a light on up and coming female artists in honor of Woman's History Month.

The Queens Council on the Arts will host a tribute to the women artists of Queens on Friday.

The show will feature a dynamic list of female poets, singers, writers and musicians across diverse backgrounds, ages and genres.

Audience members will be treated to performances, readings and special collaborations.

Organizers say these types of events are a good way to get women out of the shadows and feeling inspired again.

"Once women young women hit the age of 12, they start to fade into the woodwork. They don't strive at the same rate academically and professionally as males. So for recognition, that is why it's important to have events like this," said organizer Joan Willette.
