A local community activist now has a street named after her.

Family and friends gathered for a street co-naming in honor of Sheila Pecoraro Wednesday.

Sheila Pecoraro Way is now at the intersection of147th ave and 243rd street in  Rosedale. It's the very intersection where she fought to have traffic lights installed.

Pecoraro also led a sit-in preventing the Rosedale library from closing during a financial crisis.

"Now, this light--this traffic light will be the eternal light for her." said Pecoraro's son David

"If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem, and Sheila was the solution." said City Councilman Donovan Richards

The ceremony was held on what would have been her 75th birthday.

She died last September from cancer.
