Serena Williams took another step closer toward another U.S. Open championship Wednesday, but her opponent didn't make it easy.

The women's top seed took on Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Williams trailed Bertens 5-3 in the first set before coming back to win that set 7-6 and the next one 6-3.

Williams is looking to become the first player to win a Grand Slam in the same calendar year since 1988.

Her sister, Venus, also advanced with a three-set win over Irina Falconi.

On the men's side, top seed Novak Djokovic defeated Andreas Haider-Maurer in straight sets to advance to the next round.

Djokovic then entertained the crowd with a victory dance on the court.

Rafael Nadal and Marin Cilic also advanced.
