Flushing residents lined up to get a free rain barrel for their homes on Sunday.

Dozens gathered at the Israel Center of Conservative Judaism for the giveaway.

Assemblywoman Nily Rozic and the Department of Enviornmental Protection handed the barrels out.

"This is an immediate and direct way to impact people's runoff and both enviornmentally and economically feasible for many homeowners in Queens, " said Rozic.

The Rain barrels are designed to collect rain water off people's homes to help prevent flooding but have other uses.

"At the cost of a gallon of water, what we pay DEP for water, it's a really good alternative for watering your plants," said Flushing Resident Maria Deinnocentiis.

The rain barrel giveaway is an annual event.
