A month after being crowned, Miss New York is already getting started on her campaign to help children in need, with a visit to a children's hospital in New Hyde Park.

Jamie Lynn Macchia visited Cohen Children's Medical Center Tuesday in New Hyde Park.

The visit fits into Macchia's year-long platform dedicated to raising awareness and money for pediatric cancer.

Macchia spent time cheering up young patients and helped them create a pageant sash of their own.

"I've had my bad days here health-wise and emotional-wise yesterday I was really bad with pain and today just made up for it', said hospital patient Angeliana Personette after spending time with Macchia.

"The problems that we think we have as adults and that we're working with everyday - that might be little problems - you see a little kid who is sick and you're like this is really not a problem and it really puts everything into perspective," said Macchia.

Macchia will go on to compete in the Miss America pageant in September.
