Some Queens students are "leaping" towards positive change in their neighborhood. Our Shannan Ferry has the story.

These students may only be in middle school, but their art will soon be on display alongside the works of world-renowned artists here at Socrates Sculpture Park.

Students from I.S. 126 are participating in the "Learning Through an Expanded Arts Program," also known as LeAP.  The non-profit teaches kids across the five boroughs to transform school lunchroom tables into colorful works of art that address major social issues in their communities.

The students worked on their table Friday, addressing issues from animal rights to child neglect.

LeAP volunteers and former program participants guided them through the creative process. Once the lunch table is covered with their colorful messages, it'll be installed here at Socrates Sculpture Park for the community to see and use through August.

Students say their artwork proves no matter how young you are, it's never too early to form an opinion on social issues.  Many of them expect their messages to have an impact on the community - like this note which says drugs can kill you so think before you do.

Organizers expect the table to be installed by next week. Several other LeAP exhibits will also be unveiled throughout the five boroughs.
