The city's police department is going social.

The 109th precinct in Queens tweeted it will launch the next phase of the NYPD's social media outreach plan.

That includes a new community feedback program called IdeaScale. It allows people to contribute ideas and voice concerns over the internet, and then vote on which ones deserve the department's attention.

NYPD officials say the system will serve a very important role.

"To enable residents to communicate with their local police precincts, to advise us, or make us more aware of issues that might be concerning them that’s what we're missing on the surface," said NYPD Deputy Inspector Thomas Conforti.

Officials expect they'll mainly be hearing about quality of life problems, like complaints over loud music, speeding drivers, and issues with the homeless.
