NY1 VIDEO: Residents in South Ozone Park protested a juvenile detention center coming to their community. Dozens of people held signs and chanted across from the center on 127th Street over the weekend. A former church is being renovated to house 18 juvenile offenders as part of the state's "Close to Home" program. The Administration for Children's Services says the program aims to make sure the transition back home is well-planned and supported by aftercare services. But residents say the proposed center that's slated to open this Spring poses a danger to children in the community.
