Longtime State Senator George Onorato of Queens has died.

The Democrat represented areas including Astoria, Long Island City, and Sunnyside for more than 25 years before retiring in 2010.

According to the Daily News, the Queens native died Saturday at his East Elmhurst home.

While serving in Albany, Onorato chaired the Committee on Labor and advocated for issues affecting working families and senior citizens.

He also faced opposition from fellow Democrats and activists in 2009 when he said he would vote against legalizing same-sex marriage.

George Onorato was 86 years old.
