PENFIELD, N.Y. — A vote is scheduled to decide the future of a golf course up for sale in the town of Penfield.

A petition was submitted by residents last week calling for a public referendum on the town's intent to purchase Shadow Pines golf course from Dolomite-Oldcastle.

Community members are concerned the land may be sold to a developer who would put in more housing.

The Penfield Town Board says the petition had more than 1,100 signatures. It needed almost half that to get the vote.

It's expected to take place around February 27th if an agreement is reached by the town and the seller.

The town says it's continuing those negotiations.

One issue though, the February date is past the land owner's January 31st deadline to close on a sale.

Board members are working to get that deadline extended.

Last month they approved a $3.65 million dollar bond resolution to buy the property without public input, to meet that deadline.
