Taxi technology company "Curb" is rolling out new in-car tech in the city's yellow and green cabs.

The improvements include two new Android tablet solutions called "DASH" and "RYDE."

They will replace existing meter systems and rear passenger displays.

DASH is a lightweight tablet acting as a digital meter. It includes multi-language support, GPS navigation and an emergency panic button.

RYDE is a 10-inch tablet that supports a number of third-party apps for in-ride entertainment.

The program officially launched Thursday.

The Taxi and Limousine Commission says these additions are big improvements to the struggling industry.
