Some commuters in Queens had a tough time getting around Tuesday.

The MTA says signal problems at the 5th Avenue-59th Street Station and Queens Plaza caused multiple service changes.

Commuters on the E, F, N, Q, R and W subway lines experienced lines, crowds and longer wait times.

As of 5:54 p.m., service along the N, Q, R and W lines was back to normal after it resumed with delays earlier in the day.

The new head of New York City Transit, Andy Byford, said signal work had been done over the weekend in the same areas where signal problems occurred Tuesday. But he said it was unclear if the work caused the outages.
