The MTA is losing money on cashless tolling just two months after it finished converting all its bridges and tunnels to the new system.

An audit by the state comptroller found more than $11 million in uncollected, unpaid tolls.

The review was conducted between November of 2012 through January of this year.

The comptroller says the MTA isn't doing enough to collect the money.

A spokesman for the MTA says the Comptroller is using outdated data.  In a statement, the spokesman said:

"Open road tolling is a huge success for drivers saving time and for the environment with reduced emissions in local neighborhoods – and since implementing it we’ve increased security and ramped up toll enforcement."

The audit listed several recommendations.

They include stricter regulations and educating drivers of the consequences of not making payments.
