The MTA is thinking about cutting down the M5 bus route, even though it serves nearly 12,000 riders.

The upper portion of the route would run between the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal and 31st Street and 6th Avenue.

The lower portion would be rebranded as the M55 and would run from 44th Street and Sixth Avenue to South Ferry.

MTA officials said the goal is to make the service more reliable.

They said the changes would begin next January.

A final decision is expected this week.
