Mayor Bill de Blasio may be the odds-on favorite to win re-election this fall, but that doesn't mean he's letting up when it comes to fundraising.
His campaign says it raised more than $400,000 for the most recent filing period, covering the past two months.
When accounting for expected matching funds from the city's public campaign finance program, the campaign says it's brought in $8.2 million altogether.
"We want to make sure that we enter the general with the money that we need. And so we're going to keep raising money, going out, talking to supporters," said Monica Klein, the campaign's communications director. "The mayor will be out there, making sure that our message for re-election is very loud and clear."
The mayor's Republican rival, Nicole Malliotakis, raised $250,000 this cycle and $350,000 altogether since jumping into the race in April.
Among those maxing out their donations to Malliotakis were conservative mega-donors Robert and Rebekah Mercer.
In a statement, her campaign said, "If I were Bill de Blasio, with his horrible record on so many issues, I’d be looking over my shoulder because we are gaining the momentum needed to win this race."
