Harlem Assemblyman Keith Wright picked up the endorsement of the man he hopes to replace in Congress.

Congressman Charlie Rangel, who is retiring at the end of his term, announced his support for Wright's campaign for the 13th Congressional District, adding to the long list of endorsements for his bid which includes former Mayor David Dinkins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie.

Rangel, who has served in Congress since 1971, says in part quote: "Our beloved community needs a tireless advocate like Keith Wright who will always stand up for our best interests even in the face of right-wing extremism in Washington."

Wright is one of seven candidates vying for the seat.

The other contenders include State senator Adriano Espaillat and former Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV, who have challenged Rangel for the seat in the past.

The primary election takes place on June 28.
